New members and visiting bowlers warmly welcomed at all times

Where We Play

On Tuesdays social lawn bowls are played when at home at Greenlees Park.
Usually on every second Tuesday the club plays away at other bowling clubs. Competition is strong.  You will be given a six monthly fixture when you join.
Once a year all the City Tattersalls Clubs get together for the Turf Bowlers Carnival. This club is arguably the strongest mid week bowling club in Sydney.
We would be very happy for you to join the men’s lawn bowls combination club, as we always welcome new members.

History

(Article by Ralph Johns; Current President)
The starting date is unclear but we go back to at least 1960. The original members were all racing people; bookmakers, their staff, punters, owners etc. There was a lot of betting between players, it was common that several players would have 6 - 10 bets on their result against the opponents. That led to the out of a hat draw system so it was a matter of luck if you got a skip like Dick Jones (won the City Masters Singles) or a moderate skip. It was all part of the fun. The club has since been opened up for other bowlers to join. The popularity has been such that players from clubs all over the metropolitan area have joined and made this their mid week bowling activity.

In the early 1960's City Tatts started playing against Canberra Tatts for the 'Club Challenge Cup'. This was the seedling that grew into the tree that is now the Australian Turf Bowlers Carnival, played annually all over Australia between 9 Australian teams and 1 Singapore Cricket Club team making up the bye.  This competition is now up to its 53rd year of playing.  We had our 'home' club at Petersham for years, but with that club' s demise we switched to Greenlees Park where we are very happy and well looked after.

Some great men have led our club, Laurie Fraser, Chairman of the City Tatts Main Club and Keith Free Treasurer of the main club are most memorable.. The respect in which they are held at the senior club is unsurpassed. Both these men have excellent portraits hanging in the foyer of the City Tatts, Pitt St Sydney. A great compliment and fully deserved .

Wally Duval was our most recent past President, a remarkable man, an ex-milkman who befriended Keith Free after a game some 30 odd years ago. Wally served as President for 26 consecutiv e years. We lost Wally to cancer in 2013. A sad loss of a man never to be forgotten and his memory is preserved by one Competition Cup and one most consistent player award contested annually.
